Versus Chrome

Aszendra is built on the same foundation as Chrome — Chromium. Pages look the same and run just as fast. The difference is everything around them: an ad blocker is built in, Aszendra reports nothing home, and there is no account your history hangs on. You install extensions from the Chrome Web Store as usual.

Versus Brave

Brave blocks ads too. Aszendra leaves out everything that is not a browser — no rewards, no crypto wallet, no own search engine, no statistics. And it has things you will only find here: the Constellation, a map of all your tabs; Nachlese, a full-text search over everything you have read; and on-device translation.

Versus Firefox

Firefox is independent of Chromium — a real benefit for the diversity of the web. Aszendra is built on Chromium and therefore works with sites that are only tested in Chrome, and with Chrome Web Store extensions.

When Aszendra is not (yet) the right fit

If you watch Netflix, Disney+ or use the Spotify web player: the copy protection they need (Widevine) is still missing. If you want bookmarks and passwords synced between phone and computer: there is no sync yet. Both are on the list.
