Security update
This update closes security vulnerabilities. Aszendra installs it by itself.
Improved
- Updated components: @ghostery/adblocker-electron 2.20.1, uuid 1.28.0, serde_json 1.0.154.
Security
- Latest security fixes from Chromium (Electron 44.9.0).
Worth knowing
- Updated build tools (no effect on the browser): @cloudflare/workers-types 5.20261010.1, @types/node 26.6.5, @cloudflare/workers-types 5.20261019.1, wrangler 4.151.2.
Aszendra speaks English
The interface is now available in English. Aszendra follows your system language, and you can switch it in the settings.
New
- English interface: menus, settings, dialogs, warning pages and all of Aszendra's own pages. On a German system everything stays German; everywhere else Aszendra speaks English.
- Settings → Appearance → Interface language: Automatic, German or English. The switch applies after a restart, and your tabs stay.
Improved
- The Extensions page describes what works again: you install Chrome Web Store extensions in the store; here you load unpacked folders.
Password check, screenshots and QR codes
Aszendra checks your saved passwords against data breaches, captures whole pages and turns any address into a QR code. Private windows leave even fewer traces.
New
- Password check in the passwords window: one click shows which saved passwords appear in known data breaches, are reused or are too short. Only the first five characters of a hash leave your computer, never the password.
- Screenshot from the right-click menu: of the visible area or the whole page. The image goes to your Downloads folder and the clipboard.
- QR code for the current page from the right-click menu: scan it with your phone or save it as an image.
- Spell checking on Windows and Linux in the languages you choose in the settings. On macOS the system detects the language itself.
- After unlocking the vault with the recovery code, you set a new master password right away.
- A new entry in the Help menu shares the link to Aszendra via the share menu (macOS) or copies it.
Improved
- Private windows: their downloads no longer show up in the download list of normal windows and are forgotten once the last private window closes. Site icons stay in memory only.
Fixed
- A new tab no longer flashes white in dark mode.
Security
- Linux (.deb): an update is now verified with administrator rights on a protected copy and only then installed, so the package can no longer be swapped between check and install.
- Updated component in the password vault: uuid 1.27.0.
Worth knowing
- Updated build tools (no effect on the browser): @cloudflare/workers-types 5.20261003.1, wrangler 4.147.0.
Dark Cherry and custom colours
You can now colour Aszendra your way, and password managers can connect to their desktop app.
New
- New Dark Cherry theme in wine red, next to the familiar violet (Settings → Appearance).
- Custom colour: pick an accent and Aszendra derives every shade from it — with neutral, tinted or strongly tinted surfaces.
- Extensions can talk to their desktop app (for example Bitwarden or Apple Passwords). Aszendra asks the first time, and you can revoke it under Settings → Permissions.
Protection against dangerous sites
Aszendra now warns about scam and malware sites, can always encrypt connections and connects websites to USB and Bluetooth devices.
New
- Warnings for dangerous sites: known phishing and malware sites are blocked. The lists live on your computer; no address leaves it.
- “Always use secure connections” in the settings: http:// is upgraded to https://; without an encrypted connection Aszendra asks first.
- Secure DNS: name resolution encrypted via Cloudflare, Quad9, Mullvad or Google.
- Websites can connect to USB, Bluetooth and serial devices — you pick the device, e.g. for hardware wallets, security keys or Arduino.
- Mute tabs with one click on the speaker in the tab.
- Search tabs with ⌘⇧A (Ctrl+Shift+A) across all windows; open tabs also appear in the address bar.
Security
- The password vault's encryption uses current versions of its libraries. Existing vaults open as before.
Security update
This update closes several security vulnerabilities. Aszendra installs it by itself.
Fixed
- The prompt for camera, microphone or location and the lock menu were sometimes hidden behind the page.
- The password menu no longer loses input when switching tabs.
- If saving in the password manager fails, the previous state is kept.
Security
- Latest security fixes from Chromium (Electron 44.5.1).
- An HTML file dragged onto the tab bar used to get the rights of the browser interface. The bar now only ever shows itself.
- Downloaded files now always carry the system's origin mark, even after many downloads in one session.
- Reading history now respects exceptions entered with “www.”, capital letters or a port, and truly overwrites deleted entries.
- A copied password is cleared from the clipboard when Aszendra quits.
- A removed ad blocker exception no longer keeps working.
Worth knowing
- Updated build tools (no effect on the browser): @cloudflare/workers-types 5.20260930.2, wrangler 4.145.0.
Fix for 1.6.1
In 1.6.1 the Aszendra window stayed empty. 1.6.2 fixes that — the protection for local files stays.
Fixed
- The interface loads again. In 1.6.1 the window stayed empty.
Security
- Local HTML files still cannot read other files on your computer — now in a way that no longer affects the interface.
Worth knowing
- If you have 1.6.1, you get 1.6.2 automatically the next time you quit Aszendra.
Security update
This update closes several security vulnerabilities. Aszendra installs it by itself.
Fixed
- The password window appears only once it is fully drawn.
Security
- A downloaded HTML file opened in Aszendra could read other files on your computer. Local pages can no longer reach other files — just like in Chrome.
- Downloaded files now carry the system's mark of origin. macOS checks a downloaded program before it first runs, and Windows asks.
- Other programs on your computer can no longer launch Aszendra as a tool to borrow its permissions (camera, microphone, location).
- Extensions only see the addresses and titles of your tabs if they have permission.
- The password manager checks again before filling that the page is still the same. A password saved for a different subdomain is only filled after you confirm.
- Aszendra's own pages are additionally protected: only the script that belongs there can run.
Updates without an installer
New versions now install themselves — no installer, no downloads folder.
New
- Updates install themselves: quietly the next time you quit, or right away with a click on the arrow at the top right. Your tabs stay.
- On the Mac the previous version is kept as a backup until the new one runs cleanly. If the new one doesn't start after the click, the old one comes back.
Worth knowing
- If you still have 1.5.0, this update arrives one last time as a file in your downloads folder. From 1.6.0 on it happens by itself.
- On Linux with .deb, the system asks for your password once when installing.
Extensions with button and popup
Extensions from the Chrome Web Store now work much more completely — and a security flaw during installation is closed.
New
- Extensions get their button in the toolbar, with icon and badge. A click opens their popup, a right-click their menu.
- Extensions can add entries to the context menu of web pages, set reminders and show notifications.
- Extensions can see and control tabs and windows as in Chrome — Dark Reader, for example, now works completely.
Security
- When installing an extension from the Chrome Web Store, a crafted package could exhaust memory or write files outside its folder. Aszendra now unpacks extensions itself, with fixed limits.
Worth knowing
- Private windows still get no extensions.
Switch browsers in half a minute
If you come from another browser, you now bring everything along. Plus extensions from the Chrome Web Store and a reading aid.
New
- On first start, a welcome page brings over bookmarks, history and passwords from Chrome, Edge, Firefox and other browsers, and can make Aszendra your default browser.
- Passwords come from the export file of any common browser or password manager, and on macOS directly from Chrome, Edge and Brave.
- Extensions can be added from the Chrome Web Store with one click and keep themselves up to date. Beforehand, Aszendra says what they may do and what they lack here.
- The reading aid shows the key sentences of articles and reads aloud — both on this device.
- After a crash, Aszendra asks whether it may send a short report and shows exactly what it contains first.
Improved
- When checking for a new version, a progress bar shows that something is happening, and at the end it says clearly whether Aszendra is up to date.
- The button for workspaces now sits at the top right of the tab bar.
Fixed
- When Aszendra is the default browser, links from mail and other apps now actually open in Aszendra.
Worth knowing
- Before any extension, Aszendra asks and lists what it may do and what it lacks here.
- The update channel choice has been removed from settings.
Translation that never leaves your device
Aszendra now translates whole pages — on your computer, not in a cloud. And PDFs open right in the tab.
New
- When a page is in another language, the button next to the address translates it into yours, from more than 50 languages.
- Translation happens on this device. The first time, a language pack is downloaded once; after that it works offline too.
- Aszendra can always translate a language automatically; “Original anzeigen” brings the original text back.
- PDFs open right in the tab, with search, zoom, printing and saving.
Fixed
- Full screen (F11) on Windows and Linux now hides the tabs and address bar, as in other browsers.
Worth knowing
- Downloaded language packs are listed in settings under “Übersetzung” and can be deleted there.
The Constellation as a star map
The overview of all tabs has been rebuilt, and a few things you expect from any browser now work here too.
New
- The Constellation is a star map: tabs that belong together form constellations with names, every website has its fixed place in the sky, and a large preview sits on the right.
- Searching the Constellation dims what doesn't match instead of hiding tabs. The arrow keys move in the direction you press.
- Ctrl+Tab and then Enter takes you back to the previous tab.
- Screen sharing in video calls such as Meet, Teams or Zoom.
- Pages that ask for a password (such as routers or intranets) now prompt for a username and password.
- Print (⌘P) and Save page as (⌘S).
Fixed
- Holding ⌫ in the Constellation could close several tabs after the search was cleared.
- A sign-in window that closed itself left an error behind.
Worth knowing
- On macOS, the first access to camera, microphone or location is now explained in German.
Linux, signing in to Google and a password generator
Aszendra now runs on Linux too, and a few things that got in the way every day are fixed.
New
- Aszendra for Linux: as a .deb for Ubuntu and Debian and as an AppImage for every other distribution.
- A password generator in the key menu, with the length and kinds of characters you choose. Right-click a password field to insert a strong password directly.
- Cookies and site data can be viewed and deleted per site in the settings, or removed automatically on quit, with exceptions for sites where you want to stay signed in.
- The settings are grouped into categories, with a menu on the right to jump between them.
- “Feedback senden …” in the menu opens a prepared email for bugs and wishes.
Fixed
- Signing in to Google and YouTube failed with “This browser or app may not be secure”. It works now.
- Videos in fullscreen now fill the whole screen; before, the tab strip and toolbar stayed on top.
- Sign-in windows such as “Sign in with Google” or PayPal on other sites report back to the page that opened them again.
- On Windows, closing the last window lost the session.
- Bookmarks from Opera were not found during import.
- On Windows, menus and tooltips showed Mac key symbols instead of Ctrl and Shift.
Security
- Generated passwords are now uniformly distributed: before, some characters appeared slightly more often than others.
- A copied password disappears from the clipboard after 45 seconds.
- Electron 44.4.5.
The first version
Aszendra is ready enough to hand to someone without adding a word.
New
- The ad and tracker blocker is built in and works without an extension.
- A password vault as a program of its own, encrypted with Argon2id and XChaCha20-Poly1305.
- Background tabs go to sleep after 20 minutes and give their memory back.
- The Constellation shows every open tab as a star map — with lines between the tabs that opened one another.
- Private windows write nothing to disk, instead of deleting it afterwards.
- Bookmarks from Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox and Safari can be brought over on first launch.
- Seven search engines to choose from, DuckDuckGo by default — plus your own address.
Security
- Updates are signed and checked three times before anything is installed.
- Aszendra sends no telemetry and creates no identifier by which an installation could be recognised.
Worth knowing
- macOS and Windows warn on first launch because there is no purchased developer certificate yet. The download page explains how to get past it.
- There are packages for Apple Silicon and for 64-bit Windows. Intel Macs and Windows on ARM don't have one yet.
Versions before 1.0.0 were never handed to anyone. They exist in the repository, not in the world.
